Two plain speaking senior teachers will be giving marks out of 10 for television programmes on a reality TV show.
Friends Berian Wyn Jones and Jemma James, who both live in Brynaman, will be teaming up on the sofa on the new series of the hit S4C programme, Gogglebocs Cymru,
The first programme in the run, starting at 9pm on Wednesday, October 16, is a special to mark the 50th anniversary of the popular S4C soap opera, Pobol y Cwm.
Berian, the head Welsh language primary school Ysgol Gymraeg Tan-y-lan, in Clase, Swansea and Jenna, head of the sixth form at Queen Elizabeth High School in Carmarthen, are among seven new households freshening up the Gogglebocs Cymru cast of TV critics this time round.
The dynamic duo will be watching and giving their views on a broad range of programmes from S4C, other channels and streaming services.
There are five episodes being shown in the first run and after a six week break, there will be a celebrity Christmas special on December 27, before a further run of five programmes in March and April next year.
Berian and Jenna describe themselves as “two clowns who never stop having fun”.
They promise to voice their opinions honestly and firmly from the sofa of Berian’s home..
He said: “We see each other regularly, we live in the same village and both our families do a lot with each other.
“We are keen rugby fans and are season tickets holders at Parc y Scarlets, Llanelli. We see the Gogglebocs Cymru programme as a different sort of challenge which we are looking forward to.
“There will be no mincing of words. If I like something I’ll say so and if I don’t there’s no doubt you’ll hear about it. And I’m sure Jenna will be just the same.”
He added he is looking for programmes that lift his mood.
“There’s far too much doom and gloom in life generally and I like programmes that are dramatic but with a touch of comedy to them,” he said.
Berian often sits down to watch TV after work and ironically, given his profession, his favourite programme at the moment is Children Ruin Everything on Netflix.
But he’s no couch potato and most days start at the crack of dawn when he works on his fitness.
In the past two years Berian has lost nearly five stone and is passionate about the gym which he visits five times a week.
“I do some cardio on a Thursday and take Sundays off,” said Berian.
Gogglebocs Cymru is made by two Gwynedd-based television production companies, Cwmni Da, in Caernarfon, and Chwarel, from Cricieth
Series Producer Euros Wyn said the line-up includes several cast members from the last series.
They include John Willliams and his grandson, Cian, from Porthmadog; brothers Huw, Stephen and Mike Williams also from Brynaman and Mark Rogers and Carwyn Davies, friends who live in Manchester although Carwyn is originally from Penygroes and Mark from Bangor.
Euros said: “The old members of the cast are as excited as the new ones about the new series and they are looking forward to getting to grips with the programmes they will be watching.
“For the special to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Pobol y Cwm, we’ve decided to invite current and former members of the Pobol y Cwm cast to sit on their sofas and comment on that week’s television as well as our regular cast.
“Also, S4C have gathered together some really iconic moments from Pobol y Cwm, and it will be really interesting to see how our cast reacts to them!” added Euros.
Gogglebocs Cymru starts on S4C on Wednesday, October 16, at 9pm. English subtitles will be available and the programme can also be viewed on S4C Clic, BBC iPlayer and other streaming platforms.
