A consignment of Christmas puds will help make this festive season\u2019s showpiece feast tastier for people using a foodbank.<\/p>\n
The long-established South Gwynedd Foodbank took delivery of 100 puddings from leading self-storage company Lock Stock at their soon to open new site next to Lidl off Porthmadog\u2019s Penamser Road.<\/p>\n
It will be the 26th<\/sup> storage park to be opened by Denbigh-based Lock Stock, Wales\u2019s largest self-storage company and their first in the south of Gwynedd where they also have flourishing sites in Bangor and Caernarfon.<\/p>\n South Gwynedd Foodbank Chair of the Trustees and volunteer Claire Owen received the boxes of festive treats and said: \u201cIt\u2019s lovely to be able to offer our foodbank customers something seasonal and we\u2019re very grateful to Lock Stock for this generous donation.<\/p>\n \u201cThese have been going into the parcels for distribution this week and many will already have been received.<\/p>\n \u201cThere were far more than we expected so thank you to Lock Stock for the generous donation.\u201d<\/p>\n The charity, based in Barmouth, has been operating for more than 10 years across a huge, 700 square mile, area of North West Wales and has gone from distributing 400 food parcels a year to over 1,200.<\/p>\n Most of their stock comes from donations which are made to their collection points at supermarkets, chapels, churches and schools and manager Dave Hooper said: \u201cWe normally get lots of Christmas puddings but we\u2019ve been a bit short of them this year so it was excellent to receive these from Lock Stock.<\/p>\n \u201cIn the meantime we try to keep our website updated with what we need or what\u2019s running low and we often find ourselves short of UHT milk for example.\u201d<\/p>\n Lee Hanson, Lock Stock Area Manager for North West Wales, said: \u201cWe asked the foodbank what they needed and they said they had not had many Christmas puddings this year so we were delighted to provide them with boxes of different sized puds.<\/p>\n \u201cThey do a fantastic job covering a huge area and many people don\u2019t realise that hardship and a shortage of food are a reality for people even in a beautiful area like North West Wales.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are planning to open a new storage park in Porthmadog and we like to support the community in the places where we are in business whether that\u2019s charities like the South Gwynedd Foodbank or local schools and community groups.\u201d<\/p>\n Lock Stock, which now operates 25 storage parks across North Wales and the border counties \u2013 Porthmadog will be the 26th<\/sup> when it opens in the New Year – is the largest container-based storage company in the UK.<\/p>\n The business, founded in Denbigh in 1999, has over 4,000 storage units providing over four million cubic feet of space at storage parks across North and Mid Wales and the border counties.<\/p>\n Their existing sites stretching from Holyhead and along the North Wales coast at Caernarfon, Bangor, Llandudno, Abergele and Rhyl, on the Dee at Flint, Saltney and Deeside and inland at Denbigh, Mold, Buckley, Wrexham and Newtown in Powys, and at Oswestry and Shrewsbury in Shropshire.<\/p>\n The company also specialise in the off-site hire of containers such which can be delivered by their specialist lorry, sizes range from 10-feet long up through 20-footers to 40-foot units, all eight feet high and eight feet wide, from 640 to 2,560 in cubic feet in volume.<\/p>\n For more on the work of South Gwynedd Foodbank see their website https:\/\/southgwynedd.foodbank.org.uk\/<\/a> or go to their Facebook page at https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/barmouth.foodbank.org.uk<\/a><\/p>\n For information about Lock Stock Self Storage including off-site container hire contact them on 01745 817178 or go to https:\/\/lockstock.biz\/<\/a><\/p>\n
