A fast-growing North Wales storage giant has taken over two sites in the border counties of Shropshire and Herefordshire.<\/p>\n
Denbigh-based Lock Stock Self Storage has just signed the contract to acquire Craven Arms Self Storage and Ludlow Self Storage at Brimfield in Herefordshire, between Ludlow and Leominster.<\/p>\n
The deals will take Lock Stock, the UK\u2019s largest containerised storage company, up to 30 sites with over 4,600 units providing almost six million cubic feet of space \u2013 an increase of over 300,000 cubic feet or five per cent on last year.\u201d<\/p>\n
Operations Manager Mike Trow said: \u201cWe have had a presence in the border counties for a while with sites in Shrewsbury, Oswestry and Newtown in Powys so it has very much been on our radar to expand there.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have taken over two existing sites which makes for an easier transition but both will get the Lock Stock treatment with the storage units painted our trademark dark green on serviced and secure sites.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe two companies have worked closely together to clinch the deal and the process was made easy by the processes we have already put in place to deal with such acquisitions and to make the transition as seamless for customers as possible.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are continuing to look for more sites across Shropshire, Merseyside, Cheshire and Greater Manchester with a real emphasis on growing the business either by opening new sites or taking over existing storage parks.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe do see a gap in the market across the region between expensive, indoor storage and the cheaper more flexible option of container storage and we believe we can fill that gap.\u201d<\/p>\n
The sites were originally developed by local man Mark Carter, from Shrewsbury, who had previously been a London-based executive with the world\u2019s biggest brewer, US giant Anheuser-Busch and then one of the worlds largest tobacco companies, British American tobacco.<\/p>\n
He used his redundancy payout to open a container-based storage park in Craven Arms in 2013 with a second at Brimfield, near Ludlow, following in 2019.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cI have always liked the way Lock Stock operate. They\u2019re a family business just like us and they really value their customers so I know they\u2019re going to be looked after.<\/p>\n
\u201cA couple of years ago Lock Stock had written to me to see if I was considering selling up and I had kept the letter and they were the first I contacted when I decided to finish.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Craven Arms site has 75 storage units ranging from five foot, 320 cubic foot units, to ten footers and 20-foot units with 1280 cubic feet of storage space.<\/p>\n
The Ludlow site currently has 162 units but Lock Stock have used computer-aided design to make space for 232 with the same mix of five-, ten- and 20-footers.<\/p>\n
The latest acquisitions follows openings in Porthmadog and on Euston Road, Bangor, and their first site in Liverpool, at Huyton, and they have just taken on a new area site manager in Richard Warner, from Sandycroft, in Flintshire, to take charge of Lock Stock\u2019s storage parks in Deeside, Wrexham, the borders and Mid Wales.<\/p>\n
Richard, 32, from Sandycroft, in Flintshire, has worked in self-storage, first in Derbyshire where he is originally from and more recently in Chester for another storage provider.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cI know the industry and I was impressed by the way Lock Stock is a small team and you can get to know everyone. It\u2019s friendly and you feel valued.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mike Trow added: \u201cAll our storage parks are developed to a high, professional standard and this has made us the biggest operator of its kind in the UK.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe offer flexible terms which appeal to businesses and house movers. There is no minimum period and no notice needed when the unit is finished with so customers only pay for the days they have used.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lock Stock, founded in Denbigh in 1999, is the UK\u2019s largest containerised storage company with most of its units, including giant 40-footers, originally arriving in Liverpool by ship at the end of the 12,000 mile sea voyage from China.<\/p>\n
The company estimate that 60 per cent of their units are rented by people moving house or keeping treasured possessions but up to 40 per cent, almost 2,000 are used by small businesses for storing materials.<\/p>\n
