Residents at a North Wales care home swapped bhunas for burgers as a restaurant manager treated them to a mouth-watering feast.<\/p>\n
The foodie fun at Pendine Park\u2019s Bryn Seiont Newydd in Caernarfon was masterminded by multi-skilled Fahim Bin Ferdous.<\/p>\n
Fahim works part-time at care home while also managing\u00a0the award-winning\u00a0Caernarfon Tandoori Restaurant in the town.<\/p>\n
And if that wasn’t\u00a0enough, he is also the manager of\u00a0Iby’s Diner in the town, which opened its doors in April.<\/p>\n
Fahim, 24,\u00a0wanted to show off the\u00a0new business’s\u00a0delicious dishes to\u00a0Bryn\u00a0Seiont\u2019s\u00a0residents so brought in a\u00a0selection\u00a0of\u00a0burgers, wraps, chicken\u00a0wings\u00a0and fries\u00a0as well as milkshakes and desserts.<\/p>\n
The tasty treat is not the first time he has offered fabulous fare to the residents.<\/p>\n
Last year Fahim dished up a\u00a0selection\u00a0of\u00a0curries from the tandoori restaurant, which had been named best restaurant in Wales for the second time, for the residents to try.<\/p>\n
The curries went down a treat and the fast food\u00a0served up\u00a0by Fahim and the team at Iby’s Diner\u00a0was\u00a0equally popular this time around.<\/p>\n
Fahim, who started at Bryn Seiont\u00a0Newydd in October 2022 and had come to the UK from Bangladesh, said\u00a0he was delighted to be able to showcase\u00a0the culinary delights available at the new restaurant and takeaway, which is based on\u00a0Eastgate Street in Caernarfon.<\/p>\n
He\u00a0said: “Providing this food and offering something different to the residents just gives me so much pleasure because I just like helping people and making them feel good.<\/p>\n
“Bryn\u00a0Seiont\u00a0Newydd\u00a0is the residents’ home, they live here, and it is our job to make them happy and comfortable and give them new things to enjoy.”<\/p>\n
According to Fahim, the new business not only provided burgers, wraps and fries, but also a wide selection of desserts including waffles, churros and cakes, and a variety of drinks including milkshakes and bubble tea.<\/p>\n
He enjoys juggling his role at the care home with his responsibilities in managing two businesses in Caernarfon.<\/p>\n
He said: “I am very busy to be honest, I work at the care home two days a week\u00a0as a care practitioner,\u00a0manage the tandoori restaurant and manage the new place now, but I want to do it, I want to work hard.<\/p>\n
“Iby’s Diner opened in April and we have been busy ever since.<\/p>\n
“It is going well and people are really liking the food and it’s good to have a new business in the town\u00a0and more jobs, we have got two staff in the back and one in the front for now.<\/p>\n
“Customers can sit in or have a takeaway and we do deliveries as well.<\/p>\n
“Working at the care home has just been\u00a0perfect,\u00a0it is all about helping people and that gives me such pleasure.<\/p>\n
“My colleagues are amazing and the leaders and managers\u00a0are so supportive, just top notch.<\/p>\n
“The people of Caernarfon are wonderful, I just love them, they are the best people I have ever seen.”<\/p>\n
The food tasting session\u00a0was another fun event held at the home where staff always look to enrich the lives\u00a0of residents as well as offer them the best\u00a0care possible.<\/p>\n
Bryn Seiont Newydd enrichment practitioner\u00a0Audrey Phillips\u00a0helped Fahim set up the banquet\u00a0and had the chance to taste some of the delicious food he had served up.<\/p>\n
Audrey, who has worked at the home for eight years,\u00a0said:\u00a0“As part of our enrichment programme, I cook with the residents every Wednesday morning,\u00a0but\u00a0it’s good to have something\u00a0a bit\u00a0different this time.<\/p>\n
“In our weekly cookery sessions, I\u00a0work with\u00a0a group of\u00a0residents\u00a0and we bake\u00a0and do savoury or sweet\u00a0dishes and everyone really enjoys it.<\/p>\n
“We\u00a0make\u00a0all sorts during the sessions, such as sausage rolls, quiche, mini carrot cake muffins, scones \u2013 I\u00a0feel like\u00a0the Mary Berry of Caernarfon!<\/p>\n
“Sometimes the families join in with the sessions too, which is great\u00a0and I love doing it.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs part of the programme we take the residents out a lot, and we do arts and crafts, we do holistic therapy, and we do a bit of pampering with me doing the ladies\u2019 nails.<\/p>\n
“It is very kind of Fahim to bring in all the food,\u00a0he does so much for the residents and is always very generous.\u201d<\/p>\n
The food served up by Fahim proved a winner with the residents.<\/p>\n
Sylvia Webb, who tucked into a burger, said: “The food is all very nice, and everything looks so pretty as well.<\/p>\n
“It’s very tasty, very enjoyable.”<\/p>\n
Frank Roberts\u00a0enjoyed some chicken wings and said: “It’s very good, really tasty.”<\/p>\n
And fellow resident Kevin Roberts had a cheeseburger\u00a0and a milkshake.<\/p>\n
He said: “The burger is really good, very nice.<\/p>\n
“I usually go to McDonald’s for a burger,\u00a0this is better than McDonald’s.”<\/p>\n
Sandra Evans, manager of Bryn Seiont Newydd, said: “Fahim’s kindness and generosity never cease to amaze us. He is always thinking of ways to brighten our residents’ day, and this wonderful gesture brought so many smiles and created memories that will stay with everyone for a long time.<\/p>\n
