Work has started on a \u00a32.3 million social housing development in Rhyl.<\/p>\n
Award-winning builders Anwyl Construction have begun the construction of 24 homes, 16 houses and eight flats, for Wales & West Housing, on the former ITT factory site on Cefndy Road in the town.<\/p>\n
This is the second phase of a major mixed use project to bring homes and jobs to the 3.3 acre site where Anwyl built a 14,000 square foot commercial building two years ago, part of which now houses kitchens giant Howdens Joinery.<\/p>\n
The new housing is made up of four detached and 12 semi-detached homes and two blocks of four apartments each.<\/p>\n
Anwyl have also worked with Natural Resources Wales and will include a flood defence wall and other flood alleviation works.<\/p>\n
Site Manager Stephen Langford, from Old Colwyn, said: \u201cWork is going well and very smoothly so far and the first houses are now going up above lintel level so we\u2019ve had scaffolders in now as well as bricklayers and groundworkers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Anwyl Director Tom Anwyl said: \u201cThe Rhyl Trade Park on Cefndy Road is a new development of the former ITT site where televisions were formerly made but which had been derelict for several years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have also consulted closely with the local community, with schools and other organisations, to minimise the impact of the build on them.\u201d<\/p>\n
The project has also been backed by Denbighshire County Council and the Chairman, Councillor Brian Blakeley, from Rhyl, said: \u201cI\u2019m very pleased this development is going ahead and it’s another example of strong partnership working.<\/p>\n
“This was a derelict site and now it\u2019s providing homes and jobs too.\u201d<\/p>\n
